CHESS CAMP

Madrid 30th June – 2nd July 2017

Exciting New Course!

The European Chess Union through its Education Commission is leading the development of the educational use of Chess in Schools. The ECU is now introducing a Certificate to recognise the high standard of knowledge and skills required for teachers of Chess in Schools. The ECU Chess Camp is a training course designed by leading chess educationists in Europe and validated by an international academic panel expert in disciplines from cognitive science and psychology to statistics and pedagogy. The certification was developed following the Declaration by the European Parliament on 15th March 2012 that Chess in Schools should be encouraged for educational purposes.

The Chess Camp course comprises three days of interactive presentations, group discussions and practical exercises. The course will be held primarily in English and, where necessary, in Spanish. At the end of the course there will be a test which, on successful completion, entitles the attendee to receive the ECU School Chess Teacher Certificate. This new qualification is being recognised by the European national chess federations as a standard of excellence.  The course should qualify towards Continuing Professional Development.

Course Leaders

Jesper Hall, Chairman of the ECU Education Commission, Director of the Chess in Schools project in Sweden and FIDE Senior Trainer.

Luis Blasco de la Cruz, member of the ECU Education Commission, Director of Madrid Chess Academy, a distinguished chess trainer and a chess teacher of children with Special Needs.
